Brown-Banded Cockroaches

Biology

CLICK FOR COCKROACH PROGRAM

The brown-banded cockroach is a small species of cockroach, that is found worldwide. It gets it’s name by the coloring on it’s body. Males are tan with light brown bands that run across it’s wings and abdomen, females have a darker coloring. Both make and females are winged; however, males can fly but females cannot. The brown-banded cockroach have been studied for to their pheromones. These pheromones are an important factor in reproductive behaviors. The female creates an egg case which contains usually 14-18 eggs. She will then attach the egg case under shelves, furniture, or any area she finds safe. The development time from egg to adult is determined by the environment, it ranges from 130-315 days with the average being 206 days.

Feeding Preferences

The brown-banded cockroaches feed on food debris and scraps. They are scavenger feeders. They also can eat wallpaper paste, paper goods, and book bindings. These cockroaches will even eat other insects, feces, and pet food.

Transmitted Diseases

The brown-banded cockroach does create health risks. They can get on food and contaminate with their feces and bacteria, this can cause a case of food poisoning.

Cockroaches do spread bacteria, protozoans, and viruses. Different forms of gastroenteritis appear to be the primary illness caused by cockroaches. Cockroach droppings and cast skins also contain a number of allergens which some people are allergic to; some physical reaction include skin rashes, watery eyes, sneezing, congestion, and asthma.

Habits

Cockroaches can usually be seen in kitchens (near dishwashers, stoves, and sinks) and in bathrooms of structures. These pests normally prefer moist environments with warmer temperatures. Cockroaches are mostly active at night, when they are searching for food, water, and mates. During the day they hide in cracks and crevices and other dark areas that provide a preferred environment. Their wide, flat bodies allow them to move in and out of cracks and narrow openings with ease. They may be seen during the day, especially if there is a large population, or if there is some other issue, such as a lack of food, water or an extermination chemical is applied. This species of cockroach is one of the fastest moving insects known. This is how Expert Pest will help you. We will provide fast and effective service to rid you of the infestation quickly and discreetly.

Cockroach Extermination

To control brown-banded cockroaches, Expert Pest will do a thorough treatment. A cockroach trapping is sometimes necessary to determine the level of an infestation. A key factor in prevention is sanitation. Cleaning up all spilled foods and removing dirty dishes overnight. Store food items such as cereal, crackers, cookies, flour, sugar, and bread in airtight sealed containers. Empty garbage every night into a sturdy container with a tightly lid.

Baiting is an effective method to control or eliminate cockroaches. Insecticidal dusts like boric acid, silica aerogel, and diatomaceous can provide additional control. The use of residual insecticidal sprays or aerosol foggers within a structure is of little value in controlling cockroaches. In fact, these applications may disperse the cockroaches making complete elimination difficult and lengthy. Expert Pest has professionally trained technicians that have all the current techniques and procedures to eliminate this pest and give you peace of mind.
